How to Monitor Robcad Licenses with FlexLM

Robcad is an advanced robotic design and simulation tool used to optimize industrial automation processes.

Robcad Logo

Robcad is an advanced robotic design and simulation tool used to optimize industrial automation processes. Among its key features are the ability to simulate work cells, analyze production cycles, and optimize robot movements, making it essential for the manufacturing industry. To ensure the continuous availability of the necessary licenses for a variable number of users, Robcad uses the FlexLM manager to manage its floating licenses.

Monitoring Robcad Licenses with FlexLM

To manage and monitor Robcad licenses using FlexLM, you must run remote commands using the lmutil tool. This operation allows you to access the license server to view the status of active and available licenses.

Prerequisites for Using lmutil

  1. Download lmutil: The lmutil application is available on the manufacturer’s website and must be installed in the same version or a later version than the one on the license server to avoid compatibility issues.
  2. Find out the server name and connection port: This information is listed in the license file configured on the server. Be sure to use the server’s full name without any domain suffixes.

Examples of commands for monitoring licenses

Checking Available Licenses

The command to check how many licenses are available and their specifications is as follows:

lmutil lmstat -i -c porta@nomeserver

Where:

  • port is the port number on which FlexLM runs for Robcad.
  • nameserver ” is the address of the server hosting the license daemon.

Sample output:

Feature Version #licenses Expires Vendor
robcad 15.0 25 31-dec-2024 ROBCAD_D

In the output, we can see that there are 25 licenses available for the “robcad” feature, which expire on December 31, 2024. This type of output allows you to monitor availability in real time and check deadlines.

Checking Active Licenses

To find out how many licenses are currently in use, use the following command:

lmutil lmstat -S -c porta@nomeserver

Sample output:

Users of robcad: (Total of 25 licenses issued; Total of 5 licenses in use)
  "robcad" v15.0 vendor: ROBCAD_D
  floating license
    user01 device01 (v15.0) (SERVER/25734 723) start Wed 13/11 10:05
    user02 device02 (v15.0) (SERVER/25734 935) start Wed 13/11 10:08

The output shows that out of 25 available licenses, 5 are currently in use. Details such as the user who claimed the license, the device used, and the activation time make it possible to identify any bottlenecks and precisely manage the distribution of licenses among teams.
